I stopped 5400 printing at home since discovering a very reasonably priced printer based in Yorkshire. Sometimes VueScan will hang during scanning – the more devices you daisy chain between Mac and scanner, the higher the risk of this happening.

The software is supposed to be better than the Minolta one. The scanner goes through an initialization stage blinking its indicator lamp before it’s ready to get to work. It is better open Vuescan as a last step and be sure to close the program before turning off the scanner.
This is something I am planning to look into once I have my scanners all in one place the other two Koonica have are in storage on another continent. Postponing corrections like grain suppression may not be efficient, but it’s very easy to oversharpen an image, for example. On the other hand, we found it very easy to mangle an image by applying all sorts of corrections.
